Our little Speckster Goes to the Big Show!

It’s common knowledge that Speck Products rocks. Our SpeckQuarters in beautiful downtown Palo Alto is never without tunes, and stereo wars between sales and product development are an often occurrence. However, one old-school super-Spexy employee is currently taking her rocker status to a new level this summer, playing drums for her long-time friends The Donnas on the national “Call Me Invincible” tour with Pat Benetar and Blondie!

Admittedly, some are a touch jealous of Amy and her foray into serious rockerdom, we are all out of our minds in excitement for her and excited about living vicariously through our little drummer girl this summer. To send her off in style, we threw a little surprise birthday/bon voyage party for her last week (this month also marks a major b-day milestone for our marketing champion.)

International customer service and one-woman party planning committee Kristy pulled out all the stops as well as the red carpet for the occasion.

This is how Franco struts his stuff.

And this is Amy, the Belle of the Ball, trying hard not to succumb to peer red-carpet walking pressure.

There was quite a spread, featuring a classic office  “Amy-isms” spelled out in Falafel balls.

The food didn’t last that long…

And cool prizes- all of Amy’s favorite stuff- handed out to winners of “Amy” trivia by Brent Baer himself!

With a custom banana case and a watermelon sponge, Jia-lin was the big winner of the day, proving that she is an Amy-expert!

Good luck from everybody to our girl Amy, we miss you already!

Speck Stuff Does Both Reality and Big Screen!

First, Aqua SeeThru for iPhone caused a little rift around the office after being shown used by “Jon” of “Jon and Kate Plus 8.” Some of us (ahem) have been long-time fans, following the big fam-damily through thick and thin; tearing up a little when the kids visited the Play-Doh factory and gelling our hair to match Kate’s funky bob. Their impending divorce has affected that side of the office deeply. We mourn the end of this partnership, bemoan John’s alleged philandering and think Kate should ease up a little if she ever wants to find a step-daddy for those kiddies.

Click here to check out the clip- SeeThru’s amazing appearance is at 2:15!

johnandkate

ANYhoo, on the other side of the coin, others in the office might as well call the program “Jon and Kate Plus Hate” because they can’t stand the big crew. The six tabloids bearing them on the cover at the Minute Market creep them out and they think Kate’s haircut should go down with parachute pants and Hypercolor shirts in the annals of history’s worst fashion blunders.

Whatever your opinion is on the big brood, the fact is that Jon’s iPhone is looking fashionably protected in his Spexy Aqua SeeThru case!

In other Speck Drama Club news, Pink SeeThru for MacBook just scored a starring role in a major motion picture! As ”MacBook Case #1,” SeeThru Pink proved convincing in her performance as the laptop case of protagonist, Rebecca Bloomwood (played by the lovely Isla Fisher) in “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” Since this is a movie about somebody with a keen eye for fashion, it’s obvious that SeeThru is perfect for the role.

shopaholic

Another thing to note, is that Isla Fisher is married to and has a child with the great Sacha Baron Cohen, the zany character actor and creator of “Borat” and the upcoming “Brüno” films. It makes you wonder, what the heck their home life entails. Now THAT would make some great reality TV. Maybe Isla should have about 7 more kids…

PixelSkin’s Acting Career Gains Ground!

When green PixelSkin first told us it wanted to get into acting, we gave it the Susan Boyle treatment, scoffing at it’s abilities before we’d even seen ‘em. But MAN are we eating our words here at the SpeckQuarters!
Piggybacking off last week’s truly epic cameo aside Izzie on Grey’s Anatomy, Green P-Skin followed up with an appearance on the WB’s “Smallville.”

EAT YOUR HEART OUT SUPER-DUDE!

Please Don’t Die Dr. Izzie (BTW, Nice Lime GreenPixelSkin iPhone case by Speck You Are Holding Doc)

Grey’s Anatomy fans can agree there is a lot of drama going around ‘ol Seattle Grace as of late, with Izzie dying of cancer, her and Christina’s budding friendship, Meredith’s upcoming nuptials, Bailey’s shaky marriage due to her overcommitment at work, Callie’s bravery as she cuts off her father…. the list goes on. And on. (And on.)
heigl

But perhaps the most shocking thing to happen on the show this week was a cameo by one Spexy Spearmint Green PixelSkin case! Check out this clip of Izzie whippin’ out her PixelSkin-wrapped iPhone to snap a quickie of Merideth, as she trys on ugly wedding dresses. Merideth, how grown up you look! Speck wishes you the best in your marriage to Derek Shepard, just one word of advice; even though you want to make Izzie happy by letting her plan your wedding, don’t let her go all “Bride/wedding planner-zilla” on you! Own it girl. It’s YOUR big day. Dr. Meredith Grey, you make us proud!

Fitted Case Fits Professional Snowboard Photag’s Lifestyle!

From constant communication with the worlds top female snowboarders regarding when and where to shred the world’s freshest pow-pow, to staying in touch with her family and friends in Oregon, Professional Snowboard Photographer Christy Chaloux’s iPhone is constantly “off the hook!” That’s why she protects her darling while dressing it in a fancy winter coat-like Houndstooth Fitted case by Speck Products.

christy_blog

“I like that the fabric of my case makes it less slippery,” said Christy. “I’m always dropping my phone and juggling like 10,000 things- camera equipment and stuff- so the fabric hard shell really works for me and mi vida loca.”

Every winter, from around November to April, Christy leaves her home in Portland to jet around the globe capturing the world-class athleticism of Leanne Pelosi, Janna Meyen, Natasza Zurek and more of the world’s elite. Summers she spends on her skateboard, cruising the concrete skate parks of Oregon or in her hometown of Seaside, surfing with her dad. Recently, on a short break from her busy winter schedule, Christy squeezed in a quick skate session and happy hour with friends. While running out to her truck, her phone slipped out of her pocket, landing face down on a rainy Portland sidewalk.

“It was fine; not even a scratch!” Said Christy. “Thanks to my uber-cool Speck case!”

Keep up with Christy’s crazy winter adventures on her Transworld Snowboarding Blog and check out www.christychaloux.com to peep out some of her awesome photos!

The International Language of iPhone Case-Love!

Check out this cool feature we stumbled across from Japan’s “Street Jack” Magazine, featuring some of Speck’s finest!

streetjack_090323

If you speak Japanese, you can see it reads “The first thing you should do with your iPhone is get a cool case.” Now they’re speaking OUR language! Because our infatuation with portable electronics, protection and personalization spans borders and languages…

ヘビロテSpeckケース - that’s Japanese for “Cool Speck Case!”

Who says Product Development never gets out??

In celebration of Jenna the Intern’s completion of her 3-month stint with Speck, the Product Development department escaped from their loft-like laboratory, venturing out to take the World Famous Factory Tour at the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield, CA.

Bidding adieu to Jenna was already bittersweet, but added to the aroma of pineapple, apricot, and other flavors being transformed into sugary Jelly Belly goodness, it proved to be an extra-sensory experience. And, of course, an interesting education on how this delicious little product is manufactured.

To top off this tasteful afternoon, the group lunched at the Jelly Belly Cafe, where they enjoyed Jelly Belly-shaped hotdogs and smily-face shaped fries.

Many thanks and good luck to Jenna, (third from right) who is returning to the University of Cincinnati to complete her degree in Industrial Design!

Sam Levin Reports Back About His New Ped3!

pixelskin-stand

Hey there iPhone and iPod touch fans. I’ve been using ThoughtOut’s ‘PED3′ stands for the past few months and wanted to tell everyone how cool it is. Even cooler now, ThoughtOut has a new Form stand that allows me to easily and comfortably place my Speck Case equipped iPhone onto the PED3 stand. The other cool thing about the PED3 is that you may rotate it horizontally. If you’re looking for the ultimate iPhone stand solution this is totally worth checking out; it works with any  Speck iPhone case and is a well built, functional stand.

cheers!

(happy Speck & PED3 owner)

Our Spexy Take On NYC Fashion Week!

With only a day remaining of this year’s Bryant Park extravaganza, the air of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has hit a high note around the country, wafting all the way from New York to our humble offices in downtown Palo Alto.

Sadly, with so much on the rise here at Speck, we couldn’t be torn from our desks long enough this year to sit with the likes of Paris Hilton and Puff Daddy to witness Justin Timberlake bring “sexy back” with his new William Rast line. No, in place of tents and champagne, we had reverted to the best alternatives we can think of; scanning the fashion blogs during stolen moments, “runway walking” from customer service to accounting, and brazenly critiquing each others ensembles.

One of our favorite fashion sites to sneak a look at incrementally during the day is The Satorialist, in which Scott Schuman rambles NYC, documenting the real-life runway of the concrete sidewalks. While we stand impressed by the class these city-slickers radiate, we can’t help but add our two cents to some of these outfits…

woman1

This woman is looking sophisticated in a faux Chinchilla wrap, thigh-high boots and tweed skirt, but shows her inclination toward funky flair with an oversized blue clutch. To top off this outfit, we recommend two of our products. A colorful FD&C Blue Pixelskin case for her nano for Podcast listening while she walks to her local coffee haunt, where she will highlight her individuality with a sleek, black SeeThru Satin case.

photographer

The men in our office are going gaga over this guy’s gear. Exuding the air of Carey Grant, this man’s pairing of bomber jacket, khakis, scarf and Peter Parker frames scream “hot nerd.” Extra bonus points for the “retro” film camera he is using. Definitely a classic look. If we had the opportunity to whisper sweet nothings into his ear, we would passionately tell him he needs to wrap his iPhone in a Herringbone Fitted Case. Because you know despite his retro outfit, this dude’s not carrying a pager.

boy

Now, you know most kids these days can work the technology better than we can, and if this young man know as much about his iPod as he does about style, he’s top of the class in our book. Note the Van’s Half Cabs matched with tapered jeans, Van’s checkered shirt and fedora. He tops it all with a white blazer: to homeschool the tyke would be a fashion travesty. You know living in NYC, the kid has got to have an iPhone. For this budding fashionisto, we recommend some sweet protection with a Key Lime Jawbreaker CandyShell Case. No texting in class now kiddo! KTHXBYE!

professional1

Lastly, this man is clearly a proFRESHional. Simple lines, sans scarf, topped with a youthful Jonas Brothers-style cut, he could either be going to London to play rhythm guitar with The Verve or to the Trump Tower to present a million dollar ad campaign. But that bag does not look fitting for laptop transport, to our eyes. Whether he is carrying lyrics or paperwork, this guy clearly needs a Coffeehouse Plaid CorePack, for safe, high-fashion toting of his MacBook.

We have a feeling that you know a thing or two about Spexy fashion too! Send photo evidence to amy@speckproducts.com showing us how you accessorize with Speck stuff, and be featured on our blog!
