I've had this cover on my Mac only a few months now. I am VERY careful with my gear and always travel with my Mac inside the padded sleeve of my rolling lap top bag. A few weeks ago I noticed cracks around the corners of the bottom. Yesterday my Mac slid off my lap and I just caught it with my toes. The rear however hit the wood floor I was sitting on. Both rear tabs of the bottom cover snapped off! I had another cover on my older Mac for 3+ years, dropped and banged it multiple times and when I gave the cover away to my bro it was fully intact. You need to rethink you plastic formulation. I understand the theory of a sacrificial element but this cover should stand up to a much more than what it experienced.

I have a Speck on my MacBook Pro 17" (Matte Black) and I like everything about it but the clips on the lower part of the keyboard; they're sharp and I use my machine enough they became very irritating. I took some fine emery paper and smoothed them out, now they're much better and the machine is useable, but if you could figure out a better retaining system it would be a noticeable improvement.

I had it for 5 months when the two back clips randomly broke. I never bang my laptop or hit it. I'm the only one who uses it. Very bad design. I wouldn't suggest it.

My case was about 3 months old when the two small clips on the back of the base of the laptop randomly broke off. There was no impact or other reason why. From my perspective, just bad design. Too much pressure on those two little back clips. Looking for a new cover , buyer beware.

I bought this case thinking it would be the best for for my MacBook Pro. My laptop was an awesome gift and I wanted to protect it. For the price of this cover I figured it would be pretty good but I was wrong. I am pretty careful with my laptop and after a month of having the cover on, it is cracking on the 2 base corners facing me. I do not bang my laptop, and no one uses it but me. I always either have it sitting on my desk or it is put away in a sleeve. I hope someone comes up with a better product but this is not it. I thought maybe I just got a bad one but looking at some other reviews, thats not it. I am on the hunt for something else.

6/8 months old and my corners are chipping. An entire corner is coming off. I have never taken the case off. I'm very careful and use a laptop bag & lap desk. I thought it would just be a crack because I had a previous SPEK case for 5/6 years and it cracked where the ports and open button were. Which made sense as I used those throughout each day and the plastic was thin there. Using a lap desk and appropriate bag I am very surprised that the corner is coming off.
Also much more dirt is getting under the cover than with my old model and last SPEK case.
I am very disappointed and can't imagine that a thinner version is for sale as this is not durable at all . Also it's allowing so much more dirt under it than the one I had before.

I've had a Speck case for my iPhone for over a year and I love it. It's super durable (if a bit bulky) and it gets the job of protecting my phone done. So when I went searching for a case for my new Macbook Pro I obviously went straight to Speck, and I hate to say it but I've ended up disappointed. When it arrived in the mail and I took it out of the package I thought "Hmmm… This looks pretty cheap and flimsy for something that cost me fifty bucks, but maybe it's more durable then it looks." Unfortunately it isn't. I'm very careful with my computer and after only a few months FOUR of the the corners of this case have cracked and one corner has completely chipped off. I have no idea how it keeps cracking since I don't bang my computer around and I've never removed the case since I first put it on. Now I feel like a chump for spending so much money on something that is such awful quality. Maybe I just got one from a bad batch, but I'd definitely say buyer beware on this product.

Obviously a little pricey, but it does get the job done! This is the one I prefer because my first one was the thinner one and it broke after taking it off a couple of times to clean it. This one is much more thicker and efficient; granted it's a little more bulkier, but definitely worth buying!
