SPECK CEO IRENE BARAN INDUCTED INTO “WOMEN IN CE” HALL OF FAME

PALO ALTO, CA and LAS VEGAS, NV – CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW – January 6, 2010 – On the anniversary of her 25th year in the consumer electronics industry, Speck CEO Irene Baran was recognized last night at the annual Women in CE Hall of Fame Ceremony at the Tabu Ultra Lounge in the MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas. Baran joined seven other notable women to become the first honoree class for the newly-formed Hall of Fame.

“It’s exciting to see Women in CE develop and be able to serve women in all roles within the CE industry,” said Baran. “I am truly honored to be recognized by this organization.”

“When we considered our first honoree class, we knew we had to include Irene,” said Carol Campbell, Publisher of Custom Retailer Magazine and co-founder of Women in CE. “She is very much part of the fabric of the industry and a strong example of leadership and vision.”

Irene Baran has been passionate for the CE business for 25 years.  In 1985, she started at Monster Cable, then a very small specialty accessories company, and helped grow it into a significant Consumer Electronics brand.  She served as COO there for 16 years.  She married John Jahraus and had two kids along the way: Michael is now 11 and Kate is 8. She joined Palo Alto, California-based Speck Products as CEO in 2006, and is now enjoying building a business accessorizing the portable lifestyle.  Her family likes the outdoors and spends time skiing and hiking together.
